If you get a chance, take a peek at this theater company and some of their prior productions. It's pretty interesting what they're doing and how they're are doing it. They're collaborating with many professionals and students, me being one of them from OSU and the Knowlton School of Arch. I'm thinking they will have a strong influence of my thesis...
Here's what their "about":
Founded in 1994 and directed by Marianne Weems, The Builders Association is a New York-based performance and media company that creates original productions based on stories drawn from contemporary life. The company uses the richness of new and old tools to extend the boundaries of theater. Based on innovative collaborations, Builders' productions blend stage performance, text, video, sound, and architecture to tell stories about human experience in the 21st century.
Website of our studio in Paris, kind of fun to look around on if you are bored. There is a funny section where everyone describes where they are from, and most people are describing cool places like Hong Kong, Vancouver, or Bangkok, but I describe Brandon, SD.
After I analyzed and dictated each progression, I decided to model it. The wire was rigid yet flexible enough to work with and the colored tape represented the user modes of travel (blue, red, green, purple) and nodes (black) well.
Diagramming progression based upon user types and destination within a light-rail transit hub. The first step in my design process. I will post an updated version later that I'll use for mid-review .
This was for my digital animation class. We mostly use After Effects, but this is mainly 3ds max. I made this in one day, so it's a bit clumsy and the timing is pretty fast for the titles.
I've come across and "Favorited" a few blogs and sites that are good to check every once in awhile for different reasons. The one's at the top I check more frequently than the one's below. Here they are and a brief synopsis:
Hey Docken I know you are the king of daily architecture and other random news. How would you feel about posting a list on the site of resources and websites you have found useful?
Here are some pictures from the final crit. Unfortunately the last model is not quite finished because of difficulties with the 3d printer and laser pieces, but it should be done soon.

This final project was a development of the previous project I posted. The site is just south of the downtown loop in Kansas City. The quality of existing buildings in the area is poor to low, and likely to be the next redevelopment in KC. I explored an urban development strategy that would bring retail and residential space back into the city core by establishing a mixed use building plan. Due to physical disconnects (i.e. railroad lines, raised highways, and sunken interstates) this area of KC has become somewhat of a pocket for pedestrian travel. The building strategy addresses this by creating a bridge over such barriers that are occupied by large volume retailers. This would allow pedestrians desirable access to other areas of KC while benefiting retailers with a stream of customers.
The Balinese is an alternative to the current trend in Galveston of the construction of low density developments of second family homes. the project explores ideas of un-building and redistribution to create densities of tourism as the island is decamped. The Balinese is a condenser that proliferates along the seawall and other points of interest and is connected to the bay and the rest of the island by a light rail system. The substrate interfaces with the city grid through time, and acts as a mediator between the different spatial and temporal scales of differing activities of tourism (Casino and Excursionism), offering moments of spectacle and normality.
Work in progress...I still have to finish modeling, but I wanted to see if I could get a night render out of VRAY. Pretty elementary, but photoshop should help.
