RURAL IN(Flux) / Negotiating between radical change and a history of stasis

This semester I have been taking Pre-Thesis and developing a proposal for my thesis which I will be working on until January. We had a "Science Fair" yesterday to show where our proposal is currently at. This is the board that I presented for the discussion. The feedback I received was really helpful for me, and I think I know where I will be moving forward. At this point I have to figure out how this doesn't just become an Urban project, but how I can use architecture as an agency for change.

I am sorry if the image is not of high quality; I had to save it down to fit.

  1. Sara, this looks great. You should turn the town into a "Man-Camp" for oil workers. Just Kidding. I am interested to see what others in your class are up to as well. Did you all make boards like this? Well, I am excited to see what you come up with. I am sure it will be cool.

  2. I'm really excited to see where this goes, for obvious reasons, haha... In Beresford, we have many things going on for us past, present, and future (large grain elevator, train depot, main drag, highway, and interstate] that you would think would ensure growth, but that's only ensured survival, not growth, only stasis when there are many small towns nearby that would benefit from consolidation. We'll see what happens with this large oil plant near Elk Point... I'm glad your representing the Dakotas Sara, I know you'll give us our due, haha. Keep at it.
