Metaphysicity (met-uh-fiz-i-sit-ee) page 1-2

Metaphysicity (met-uh-fiz-i-sit-ee) page 3-4

A smaller, theoretical project I was working on during my last semester. It is in the direction I might take with my Thesis. I am planning on putting it towards the end of my portfolio to show my current interest. I think it will add diversity to my portfolio but it has to be clear...

which I am not sure it is in its present state.

Computer Project - Rhino with VRay

Computer project where we were supposed to model a surface with perforations. I made a surface using a bitmap picture of the tree shadows around rice. Using the same bitmap I created a half tone image in photoshop for the density of perforations. This was really just a way to have some constraints for myself. The project was really about learning some things about the software. I feel like I might be getting better at the computer!!! Also, the teacher is pushing a new rendering program called Brazil? It is pretty good, especially for people like me who are 3ds Max illiterate.

Holy Brushes!

Go to http://www.youthedesigner.com/category/free-vector-art/. Download the brush(es) of choice. Open up photoshop. Go to WINDOW> BRUSHES. At the brushes tab at the top, click the arrow pointing right. Go to LOAD BRUSHES. And then, by all means, load your newly downloaded brushes. Hopefully this is clear, if not post a question in the comments.

Post Access

I believe I have to invite you to be able to post. To do this I need your email address.  Either leave it as a comment or email me (rdocken1@huskers.unl.edu).

Here's a few images that I have saved to my computer awhile back that show a couple different techniques that you may or may not find useful when you start your portfolio.

I stumbled upon this and thought I'd post it. Very cool.

quizlet.com

A great tool to use for GRE studying. I will be working on creating my own sets where you all can get access with a password. In the mean time, sign up for quizlet (create an acount) and look around.

Sara's Email and Summer Schedule

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that a spinoff of our book club meetings from last summer are going to continue this summer.  This summer we are going to alternate between Grad Prep(GRE and Portfolio) and Book Club. (which are described further below.)

Grad Prep:
I went through the applying to grad school process last summer/fall, and Ryan and Jon are doing the same this year(as I know some third years are as well.)  I am not necessarily the best resource, but HT plans to come as well for feedback and so on.  We had one meeting already and decided that for the first month or so we will focus on the GRE. (This consists mostly of hanging out and studying together, which from personal experience is helpful.)  The later part of the summer will be focuesed on the portfolio part of applying to grad school.  This is going to be a produce, show, and feedback type process.  This should be really helpful and is something I wish I would have done when I applied, but that I will use to rework what I sent in.

Book Club:
For the last time we are going to try to read Empire by Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri.  We tried it at the tail end of last summer after reading Society of the Spectacle, Kafka, and some Borques, but the transition didn't work so well when school started.  The book is relatively long, and if you look at the schedule you will see that we are going to cover LARGE sections every other week.  Out meetings are VERY casual, and we will probably meet for drinks, so don't feel obligated to read every sentence and analyze it.  Just bring some conversation and ideas about even the general idea of the reading.  We generally get off topic anyways.  If you are doing the Grad application process and are still planning to come to book club, I would almost recommend not even worrying about reading, but focusing on your application work.  Just come for the conversation/beer.

I have attached a very loose schedule for the few upcoming months which is subject to change.
